Artist's statement
I aim to convey social messages through art, promoting cooperation and understanding among East Asian countries, transcending historical controversies such as the Rising Sun flag symbolizing Japanese imperialism. My work explores social issues centered on the historical wounds of East Asia and Japan and contemporary war phenomena. Reinterpreting historical events and modern social issues visually, my piece "Deconstruction; cover up" reveals the shape of the Rising Sun flag through fire, showing the pain of East Asia through elements that may appear beautiful from a distance, demonstrating the goal of multi-layered expression. Additionally, art is a process that can evolve from two-dimensional thinking to three-dimensional thinking, serving as an important medium to reflect and interpret social issues and historical events. For instance, my piece "Butterfly Effect" uses Fred Again's "We've Lost Dancing" as background music to express the complex emotional changes similar to the final scene of the movie "Triangle of Sadness." The audience experiences the artwork and the process of art interpreting social issues and historical events three-dimensionally. This realization has led me to understand that art is a powerful tool for conveying social messages. Therefore, I now seek to integrate space and art to highlight social issues from a new perspective and foster empathy through communication with the audience.
